Unlinking a terminal
Where: POS — Settings → Danger zone → Unlink DeviceWho: manager (typically the person physically at the terminal)
Unlinking wipes the device completely: its credentials, the downloaded catalog, customers, cashiers, cached images — everything. The terminal forgets which account and store it served and returns to the first-run pairing screen.
When to unlink
- Moving a till to another store — unlink, then pair with a code for the new store.
- Moving a device to a different account — same flow; the machine has no permanent bond to any tenant.
- Retiring or re-purposing hardware — ensures no business data stays on it.
How to unlink
- On the terminal, open Settings.
- In the danger zone, choose Unlink Device and confirm the two-step prompt.
- The device wipes itself and lands on the pairing screen.
To put it back into service, pair it again — see Pairing a new terminal.
Irreversible
Unlinking cannot be undone from the terminal — the only way back is a fresh pairing code. Any unsynced sales on the device are lost; if the till has pending uploads, let it sync once online before unlinking.
Unlink vs revoke — pick the right one
| Unlink (on the device) | Revoke (in the dashboard) | |
|---|---|---|
| Wipes the device? | Yes | No |
| Kills its access? | Yes | Yes |
| Use when | You have the device in hand and want it repurposed | The device is lost/stolen or should stop working remotely |
